class reflection

So I did all the big projects but I did slack a little when it came to the blog posts. I think I missed the last ones I'm not really sure what they had to be about. I did try my best in all my work. I put all my effort into the projects all though I did sometimes leave my work till the last minute, I have always done that though it's not just for this class. I do believe that my work got a little better I would hope that it did. I have always struggled with writing and it has been a weakness of mine since high school. But I'm going to take what I learned this semester and put it into work in my future essays.

So in the process of looking for a picture for our assignment I kind of struggled to find one that I found interesting and to which I would be able to argue about. I was scrolling through a blog in Tumblr where i found a post about the football player who last year was accused of child abuse for hitting his son. After reading the article i decided to write about this topic because I found it interesting. When does discipline turn into child abuse? I don't have children at the moment and i don't know how to properly raise a child yet but i hope to learn something from this assignment. And all i know is that child abuse isn't right and I'm sure  there are other alternatives when disciplining a child and a way to avoid having to use physical punishment.

rant reflection

Okay so I just read and article and luckily I was wrong. The whole measles party concept came up when a mother friend offered to set a play date with her affected child so that the unaffected children can catch it. We can only catch measles once so she offered that for that reason.

I'm really glad that I just misunderstood, I only read the article that one time and I honestly never went back to re-read it. Even though the measles parties weren't really going on I still think the idea of them are horrible. If someone ever thinks about throwing one or attending one I hope that they know all the consequences and even though some cases are worse than others the chances I think are equal especially if the child isn't vaccinated.

The subject caught my attention right away because of where I work and I can relate to it more. Even though I don't have kids of my own I love children and I will always fight for them.

revised rant

Rant

I decided to talk about the measles parties because of what has recently happened with the outbreak we have had. When I saw the article about the measles parties it really got to me because that is just something very irresponsible. I'm sure any other parent would agree with me in that it isn't such a smart idea to do something like that, I mean except maybe the parents thinking about throwing the parties.

Measles isn't  something you would want to expose your child too. There can some severe consequences that can come from a child catching them as of what I have heard from the news or other people. Why would someone want to risk their child's life just to avoid the vaccine.

Measles are way worse than chicken pox, they might look similar in some way but they have total different outcomes. Measles can cause I child's death especially if they aren't vaccinated or if they are really young(babies). Babies are more likely to have more severe symptoms but that doesn't mean any other child wont react to it the same as a baby just because they are older.

I think this is a good rant to share in the KinderCare Facebook page because that way parents can hear about these measles parties and hopefully avoid them, if they are smart. Or maybe some parents can do something about these parties. Well at least the ones in California since that's where these parties were first heard of.

I really hope that no parent ever thinks about exposing their child to measles just to avoid a vaccine.

Rant

Let's start with the whole measles outbreak that has happened. I work at a KinderCare so when the outbreak happened at another KinderCare the one where I work started to take several precautions. Then on Tuesday morning just before class I saw this article about parents in California who are throwing measles parties! They are throwing those parties so their unaffected child can get them from kids who currently have them so that their child doesn't have to get the vaccine for it. Are you kidding me don't they know what having measles can do to them. An unvaccinated child can dies from it! I don't understand why these parents are risking their child life just so they don't have to take their child to get the vaccination. Are they not thinking straight or something. Have they not heard of all the fatal cases involving this infection? I think the parents taking part in those parties are very irresponsible. How would they be able to live with themselves if something happened to their child?I'm not even a parent yet and I know that isn't a very smart thing to do. Why risk your child's life exposing them to that, I'm sure it's not that expensive to have the child get vaccinated instead. These parents really make me angry.

highs and lows about After Tiller

I think it's hard to say the highs and lows but here are a few I think there are.
Highs
- Gives  a different view about abortion
- Has several different cases of abortions
- Gives some of the reasons as to why women are getting the abortion that late in the pregnancy
- Shows a small part as to how the doctor feels when deciding who gets the abortion

Lows
- Shows more pro-choice people
- Not enough description about abortion process
- need more rejected cases examples

It's kind of hard to find the lows from the film because I really enjoyed it. I really like the subject because I love babies. I know my highs might not be that great but I really believe this is an interesting film to watch, I greatly recommend it!

Two questions answers I would like to share would be 1 and 3

1.      What did you learn from the movie?

Something I believe I learned from the documentary I decided to watch is that third trimester abortion is okay in some situations. When I first saw the description of the movie I was a little upset that people actually get third trimester abortion but after watching the documentary I learned that in some situations that third trimester abortion is better than having the baby suffer once it’s born. I learned that those people are just doing the best for their child and in those situation I think I would do the same too, but only if I know my child is going to suffer.

3.      What questions remain after the viewing?
How do the doctors doing the abortions feel after the process? How do they determine who they will and will not do the abortion for? What are the doctors thinking when making the decision as to who can get the late abortion?

2nd reflection

I left you all the trailer of the documentary I decided to watch for our project, I really think you should watch it especially if you have an opinion about abortion or about third trimester abortions.  Like I said in my previous post I really don't like the idea of abortion but this documentary made me understand why some women decide to get one. I think this documentary might change your opinion on third trimester abortion or any type really. I still kind of don't think it is okay for abortions to happen especially so late in the pregnancy but some of these women that have them have a really good reason as to why they decide to do it. I think that if the reason is really understandable it's okay but I don't think women should have abortions this late in the pregnancy just because they realized they wont be able to afford daycare or because they already have kids and decided that they want to go back to school and finish that first. You are already half way through the pregnancy if you think that more than one or two kids is too much maybe find an alternative like adoption. I don't think it takes you 28weeks to realize you can't have or want the baby.

1st reflection

I was going through the list of documentaries and I really didn't seem interested in the other ones I was going to watch Super Size me because I felt familiar with it but then I came across After Tiller, it caught my attention right away. I decided to watch this documentary because I have always had something to say about abortion. Or anything that has to do with babies gets my attention. When I first read a the little description about it I knew I had to watch it but I first looked for a trailer and after that I for sure knew this was the one. The documentary After Tiller is about the four doctors in the country who do third trimester abortions. I couldn't believe that this was actually allowed in this country legally. The documentary showed the four doctors who do this. At first I was a little mad because I couldn't believe that people actually decided to get an abortion so long in the pregnancy, why not do it before. Then they started to explain why these women do it and their reasons so I started to understand them a little more and by the end of the documentary I wasn't to much against it. I'm not totally against abortion but I don't think it's ok to be doing it just because you messed up.

Hello:)

Hi I'm Rosalba but I go by rosie, everyone calls me that. I've never blogged before so I really don't know how all this works so bare with me. The closest to blogging I have done is tumblr, I love tumblr. I don't think the blogging should be hard in any form, I kind of like the idea of this because it's easier to participate. I also like this because we can say more without feeling shy to say something. I hope I learn more about writing in this course and that the semester goes by fast.
